Ladies and Gentlemen-
Today, I am very happy to launch the World Wide Dance Party Podcast. The first episode is entitled "Funk Tales of the Bay Area". What do Sly & The Family Stone, Afrolicious, Con Brio, Bayonics, The Park,Official Tower of Power Band, Darondo, Digital Underground, The Headhunters, Santana, Afrofunk Experience, Little Sister, all have in common? They are from the bay and they are funky as hell. This episode pays homage to the funky sounds and souls that came out of the Bay Area counter-culture and civil rights movement in the 1960s and 1970s. We also explore the impact it had on more recent Bay Area artists --- such as Digital Underground, Afrolicious, Con Brio, Bayonics, Afrofunk Experience, The Park, and more. Thanks for tuning in! 100% of proceeds to support East Palo Alto-based Live in Peace’s Youth Development Through Music program
Redwood City, CA, Friday, November 7, 2014- The World Wide Dance Party returns to the Club Fox in Redwood City with an exciting show to benefit East Palo Alto-based Live in Peace’s Youth Development Through Music Program.
The event honors the global impact of music that arose from the Bay Area counter-culture and civil rights movement in the 1960s and 1970s, and invests in the future (100% of the proceeds are donated to Live in Peace). One of the major artists being celebrated is Sly and the Family Stone, the first major American band to have an integrated, multi-gender lineup. Before Sly very few soul and R&B groups delved into political and social commentary; after him, it became a tradition in soul, funk, and hip-hop.
Previous WWDP events in San Francisco and the Peninsula have been sold-out successes, this is a one time event that should not be missed.

About Live in Peace
Live In Peace has become a second family to many young people in East Palo Alto and eastern Menlo Park. They help youth navigate their way through barriers they may face to a peaceful and positive future. They provide scholarships and ongoing social-emotional support for students, and recognize that when young people tap into their artistic gifts the entire course of their lives can shift. They have started the Live In Peace Music Academy to help youth uplift the community in East Palo Alto/Eastern Menlo Park. Live in Peace will be bringing their brass band comprised of previous and current students.
